Music is the key to any party so it’s definitely an important part of your wedding reception.
If it’s done right, music will energize your celebration, heighten romance, and inspire guests to get down on the dance floor.Oh yeah, great-uncle Sid …get down with your bad self!
Unless you just heard a great band at your friend’s wedding, finding a band that suits your wedding is a lot of trial and error. Once you find a band that you THINK is good, even after you listen to their demo CD, go crash a wedding where they’re playing. This will give you a great indication of how they’ll really perform at your wedding.
For other important tips for booking a band, read this list. Rock on.
Oh! One more thing. Don’t let your band play ‘Superfreak’ by Rick James. That’s just wrong. Unless you …oh, never mind.
Reception Music [The Knot]
I asked my father to choose a song for us to dance to. This was his reply: “I think that you should pick the song. I’m sure that you’ll pick something that would be special for both of us. Just make sure that it is not a Hip Hop song as I’m a bit weak on the moves. Also nothing that requires a mosh pit.” Yeah, he’s a funny one.
Anyway, can you imagine how much I’m going to cry DURING this dance with my Dad? I was teary-eyed when I realized I had to pick a song. I was sobbing when I decided on the song. I’m going to be a flippin’ basket case when I’m dancing with him. He’s already said that he won’t “give me away” since I’ll always be Daddy’s little girl, but he’ll walk me down the aisle and share me with my guy.
There are a lot of songs out there, most of them generic. Try and pick something that has meaning for you and your Dad. A friend of mine, just the other weekend, had a standard playing for her and her father, but the band broke into Zippety-Do-Da since her father used to sing that to her when she was a kid.
I was glad to see that I wouldn’t be the only bride choosing a non-standard and stirring up childhood memories. My father always used to sing ‘Goodnight Irene’ to me when he’d tuck me in at bedtime. No, my name is not Irene, but it’s a sweet memory for both of us. Note to self: buy stock in Kleenex.
