So You Want to Become a Wedding Planner

If you saw the Jennifer Lopez movie The Wedding Planner and thought JLo's job looked like a heck of a lot of fun, maybe becoming a wedding planner is something that you should consider.

A wedding planner, or wedding coordinator as they are also known, is someone who plans weddings or assists in the planning of weddings on a professional basis.

If you want to be a wedding planner you are going to need to be a wealth of creative ideas and insider's know-how, and have connections with all the hottest, hippest retailers in the world of weddings.

Here are just a few of the many subjects, disciplines and concerns you will need to have:

Selecting, designing, and fitting the bridal attire and accessories
Choosing wedding theme, colors and mood
Selecting and arranging flowers
Selecting music for different parts of the wedding
Deciding on the timing and schedule for the ceremony
Calming bridal stresses
Providing help with tradition and etiquette issues

The salary range of this profession is quite impressive, and it really all depends on how many clients you have and how much money they are going to be spending on their weddings.

The more the wedding costs, generally the more work will have to be put into it and the more money the wedding planner would be paid as a result.

In terms of hours, there is no typical week in this profession and you really need to be ready to work around the clock.

There may be certain times where you are working 16-18 hours a day, and others where you have almost nothing to do for days in a row.

If you are creative, intelligent, reliable and organized, becoming a wedding planner may be just the idea for you.
