Videotape Your Wedding

video.jpgAs the bride, you will be the center of attention. Translation: Everyone will want your attention. You’ll end up talking to Aunt Beatrice about her corns for 15 minutes, and miss the best man hula-dancing. Uncle Mortimer will pinch your cheeks for 10 minutes, all the while trying to find a pocket in your dress (as if!) in which to put some cash -- not all bad, but you missed your best friend chatting up your cousin. The point is, while you’re gabbing with everyone, you’ll be missing a lot of your wedding reception. And you’ll be missing ALL of the ceremony until you make your own stroll down the aisle. Solution: Hire a good videographer to get it all on tape so that you and your guy can watch it later on, to see all that you missed. Not only will it be a special keepsake, it will also be hysterical to watch the old folks dancing!

Okay, so i've been married, and also assisted my oncewife in coordinating several more weddings. You are so right about missing everything going on. You're so pre-occupied with welcoming and thanking everyone, before you know it, the night is through and you never even tasted the food you spent hours debating and fighting over, not to mention the $$$$$ spent on it. So I have this advice I give to every bride and groom. It is something my ex and I did at our wedding and I am grateful for it. At some point during the reception, step back from all the hoopla, to a place in the room where you can see everything going on all the people milling about, the relatives catching up, the new machatunim (sp?), your drunk cousin hitting on his drunk cousin in the hopes of leaving that taffeta and huge ass bow (say it aint so!) on the floor of some hotel room, or the coat room. Look at all the people there who love you, and who wanted to share in your day. It is a very filling, warm feeling. You won't have this moment again, don't let it slip away without taking that mental photo, that still frame in your mind. Remember it and cherish it. For all the love in that room for you two, it is a reflection of the love you have for each other. I miss that, I am envious. Be each other's everything.
